Art I
Art I at Blue Ridge High School, is an elective offered every year for grades 9-12 and is one year in length. Focusing on the Elements and Principles of Design, students will begin their journey in becoming successful art makers. Along with the Elements and Principles, Art I will focus on various media while creating projects that are engaging and that encourages creativity and choice. This gives students a broad range of artistic experiences that they will build upon in the courses that follow. Artistic experiences include: Keeping a sketchbook, research, drawing, painting, printmaking, and creating sculpture from mixed media and clay. Students will participate in critique activities where they will be able to describe, interpret, analyze, and evaluate student artwork and images. Student artwork will be uploaded by each student to the online art gallery, Artsonia. As students learn technical artistic skills and specific vocabulary, students are encouraged to make personal and worldly connections through their art-making experiences.
